Putting a Home on the Water

Lakeside lots are a blessing in so many ways; beautiful views, family memories, fishing, swimming, boating, cool lakeside evenings by a fire place….but they require a lot of pre-planning and site consideration too. There are horizontal dimensional limitations from the high mean watermark that begins to tell you where your project can sit on your site. There are also vertical flood elevations that limit the bottom level of your project. Not to mention fire truck access and construction staging…. It is good to know these conditions exist so as not to exhaust the client. But, rather, to make the process of design and new construction as pleasant as possible for them.

These projects require heavy handed teamwork and communication with the builder. The wonderful thing about being able to work with all the puzzle pieces, as an architect, is the realization of a beautiful family heirloom for many generations to come.
